At St. John's we follow a programme of study which looks at history chronologically. Two lessons a week are dedicated to developing the pupils' awareness of time (past, present and future) and the children soon become expert at placing events on a time-line, connecting the past to subsequent developments in the history of a variety of civilisations.

History comes to life through a series of visits to various historical sites and we are fortunate to have the opportunity to organise three workshops a year in school, when visiting professionals recreate the past in our very own school hall.

The participating classes may be invited to join the Roman Army for a day, dress up as Victorians or Tudors and spend a day in either a Victorian or a Tudor school. Videos, recordings and documents form a regular part of our class activities as do researched presentations of aspects of History, which the whole school enjoys.
